Financial Accounting & Compliance Manager

Location: Washington DC

This role is ideal for professionals with a track record of progressively responsible experience, typically gained over 12–15 years.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operating as a member of the leadership team to develop financial tradeoffs for various business courses of action.
  • Participating in proposal pricing strategies and producing price proposals for government contracts.
  • Preparing and updating budgets and periodic earnings forecasts.
  • Analyzing and updating a rolling weekly cash flow forecast.
  • Preparing and maintaining records for availability and usage of the company’s line of credit facility.
  • Interfacing with outside auditors to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Preparing a monthly reporting package along with an appropriate discussion and analysis of operating results.
  • Coordinating month-end closing and producing monthly reporting and analysis.
  • Supervising the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely financial processes.
  • Maintaining supporting general ledger schedules and preparing account reconciliations.
  • Performing monthly customer billing and collections based on project and contractual guidelines.
  • Serving as the point of contact for audits and reviews.
  • Supervising bi-weekly payroll, including updates for new hires, terminations, and other changes.
  • Ensuring that processes and procedures are in place for the time entry of hours and other charges in compliance with federal government regulations and contract provisions.
  • Owning and maintaining government accounting software systems, including cost structures, project setups, budgets, expense reports, employee data files, and per diem tables.
  • Assisting in improving department processes, procedures, and documentation.
  • Communicating effectively with internal teams, external customers, and partners through both written and verbal communication.
  • This position is comprised of 70% accounting based job duties and 30% compliance related tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Applicants with 12–15 years of overall professional experience will be given strong consideration.
  • Familiarity with government cost accounting software such as Unanet or Deltek.
  • Experience performing DCAA Audits
  • Experience with incurred cost submissions
  • Experience dealing with basic contract types, including FFP, T&M, and CPFF.
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Familiarity with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS).
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment.
  • Flexibility and ability to effectively work with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to handle a significant workload.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong integrity and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Federal government contracting experience is strongly preferred.
