Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Lab/Facilities Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations, safety compliance, and maintenance of our laboratory and facility spaces. This role ensures that laboratory and building operations run smoothly, efficiently, and in accordance with safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience managing lab equipment, coordinating vendor services, and supporting a collaborative research environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of lab and facility spaces, ensuring functionality and cleanliness.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment and instruments; coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
  • Coordinate hazardous waste management, organize a safety committee, work with our external consultant for documentation required by the state/county, lab safety training, and Hepatitis B vaccination program.
  • Manage inventory of lab supplies, chemicals, and consumables; place orders as needed.
  • Implement digital inventory (e.g., Benchling) with barcoding; track lot numbers/expiry and trigger restocks before shortages.
  • Maintain accurate SDS and COA files for all chemicals and biologics
  • Enforce lab safety protocols and training programs. Mentor junior staff on good laboratory practice (GLP) fundamentals
  • Support onboarding of new staff with lab/facility orientations.
  • Build strong partnerships and serve as point of contact for vendors, maintenance staff, and contractors.
  • Coordinate facility-related services such as HVAC, security, waste management, and janitorial support.

  • Maintain documentation of equipment calibration, safety audits, and service records.
  • Manage Shipping and Receiving: Verify contents against POs, log lot and serial numbers, and route items to appropriate storage or personnel. Prepare documentation for domestic and international exports, ensuring compliance with IATA, DOT, and customs regulations.
  • Act as 24/7 emergency on-site contact for alarms, spills, freezer failures, or utility outages.
  • Participate in space planning and improvement projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, engineering, or facilities management field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–5 years experience in lab operations, facilities management, or related role.
  • Strong knowledge of lab equipment and facility systems(e.g., HVAC, fume hoods, compressed gas systems).
  • Familiarity with EH&S standards and best practices.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform hands-on maintenance tasks when required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a biotech, pharmaceutical, or research environment.
  • Certifications such as CLFM (Certified Laboratory Facilities Manager) or OSHA 30.
  • Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).

The anticipated salary range for this position is $154,000 to $172,000. The actual salary will be dependent on various factors that may include experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities.
