Job Description

CornerStone Staffing has partnered with the City of Dallas seeking a dynamic and customer-focused Library Public Service Specialist I to join our team. This role is dedicated to supporting the public’s informational and recreational needs by providing reference and referral assistance, technology support, and outstanding library service. Job Title: Library Public Service Specialist I

Location: Dallas, TX

Schedule : Tuesday – Saturday (Rotating Schedule)

Hours : 40 hours/week

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist library users with locating information, answering reference questions, and navigating digital resources.
  • Support patrons in the use of computers, online tools, and other technology.
  • Build relationships with the community, including local groups and partner agencies.
  • Help customers select materials and recommend books or movies.
  • Offer one-on-one assistance for job searching and computer use.
  • Design engaging displays, reading lists, and library presentations.
  • Contribute to planning and presenting library programming and outreach events.
  • Act as a branch/unit lead in the absence of the building manager.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining collections under supervision.
  • Participate in library support duties such as building maintenance, shelving, check-ins, and curbside services.
  • Travel between library branches as needed.

 

Experience :

  • 2+ years of frontline customer service or library experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Library Science, History, or a related field.
  • OR an associate degree/60 college credit hours plus 4 years of full-time customer service experience.
  • Strong research and information retrieval skills.
  • Understanding of library systems, procedures, and digital tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and age groups.
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills with a service-oriented mindset.
