Job Description

Summary

A Mechanical QC Technician ensures that HVAC systems, piping, and mechanical installations meet project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory codes. This role is critical in maintaining quality across commercial and industrial construction projects, particularly in sectors like data centers, hospitals, and semiconductor facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Inspection & Testing

  • Conduct inspections of HVAC systems, chilled water piping, ductwork, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Perform startup and commissioning checks, including L1–L4 mechanical inspections, load bank testing, and system performance validation.
  • Use tools such as infrared cameras, micrometers, and pressure gauges to verify system integrity and performance.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain detailed inspection reports, non-conformance logs, and corrective action records.
  • Use software like BIM 360, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office to track quality metrics and inspection outcomes.

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure installations comply with ASME, NFPA, IPC/IMC, and TAS standards.
  • Support audits and regulatory inspections, ensuring readiness and documentation accuracy.

Collaboration & Oversight

  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and project managers to uphold quality expectations.
  • Supervise or support other QC technicians and field teams, ensuring alignment with project goals.

Commissioning Support

  • Assist in Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB) efforts.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and resolution of system performance issues.

Required Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of experience in mechanical contracting or commissioning (commercial/light industrial).
  • Proficiency in HVAC systems, piping layouts, and mechanical installations.
  • Familiarity with commissioning protocols and quality control procedures.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in both field and office environments.

Preferred Credentials

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management.
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or ANSI N45.2.6 Level II QA/QC certification.
  • OSHA 30, NFPA 70, or other safety certifications.
  • Experience in mission-critical environments (e.g., data centers, hospitals, semiconductor facilities).
