About the Role:

Suzano is expanding its operations in the U.S., and we are seeking a dedicated Safety & HR Specialist to join our team at our facility in Waynesville, North Carolina . This role is essential in building a strong safety culture, supporting key HR activities, and ensuring compliance with regulations as our operations grow. As the primary HR point of contact at the mill , this person will have a unique opportunity to shape the workplace culture, foster employee engagement, and implement both safety and people strategies on-site.

What You’re Going to Do:

Safety Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement safety programs and policies that comply with OSHA and other local, state, and federal safety regulations.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure protocol adherence.
• Lead or support incident investigations and drive corrective actions.
• Conduct safety training and onboarding sessions, ensuring employees understand and follow safety procedures.
• Manage safety equipment and ensure appropriate use of PPE.
• Maintain safety records and track performance indicators for continuous improvement.
• Support emergency response plans and lead drills.
• Be a trusted contact for employees regarding safety concerns and practices.

HR Responsibilities:

• Act as the on-site HR representative , supporting daily HR needs and employee engagement.
• Partner with leadership to foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture.
• Coordinate local onboarding, training, and workforce development activities.
• Support employee relations, engagement programs, and wellbeing initiatives.
• Liaise with Suzano’s broader HR and Talent Acquisition teams to ensure alignment with company-wide strategies.
• Help implement internal communications and local culture-building efforts.
• Provide administrative support in HR matters such as documentation, policy awareness, and timekeeping compliance when needed.

What We Expect from You:

• Associate degree or certification in Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Previous experience in industrial safety and/or HR roles, preferably in manufacturing or packaging environments.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and general HR practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a people-first mindset.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); familiarity with safety or HR software is a plus.
• Comfort in working independently and serving as the primary representative of HR and Safety on-site.
