Job Description

Our client is seeking a Senior Refrigeration Design Engineer to join their forward-looking team. In this role you will have the opportunity to work on some very interesting projects for industry-leading clients. Using the latest technology, you will be expected to develop designs, propose solutions, and generate BOM’s, accurately and efficiently. Also, you will be the primary point of contact between engineering and the manufacturing team and your contribution will be pivotal in ensuring projects hit all timing and fiscal benchmarks.

Responsibilities will include:

• Perform calculations related to single-stage and cascade refrigeration designs for large custom systems to be installed at client sites.
• Appropriately size components such as: evaporators, condensers, line sizes, heat exchanges, condensing units, fan blades, and blower wheels
• Create refrigeration state diagrams to calculate desired pressure, temperature, mass flow, and component capacity
• Load calculations including forced air convection over a customer’s product, to ensure systems can achieve customer requirements
• Perform calculations to adequately size open coil & finned sheath heaters and to achieve set humidity points.
• Hands-on evaluation of refrigeration system performance in a manufacturing test environment.
• Develop solutions aimed at increased efficiency and repeatability.
• Iterate on existing refrigeration designs and also troubleshoot existing designs toward developing creative improvements for efficiency and surge capability.
• Create all refrigeration schematics in Solidworks electrical, following all ANSI standards, and generate and execute engineering change orders.
• Generate a Bill of Material in conjunction with other disciplines
• Help create and maintain work and test validation procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all EPA and EU requirements.
• Lend support to service with field issues and installations
• Review and comment on supplier data as required.

Background profile:

• A four-year degree in Mechanical/Refrigeration Engineering is preferred.
• Five or more years of Refrigeration engineering experience is preferred.
• Five or more years of designing schematics for refrigeration circuits is preferred.
• A firm understanding of thermodynamics is required including convection heat transfer, plate heat exchange heat transfer, and refrigeration mass flow calculations.
• Practical refrigeration experience with an understanding of good plumbing practices including: oil migration, avoiding pressure drop, liquid migration in low-temperature systems, and component mounting to ensure safe transit.
• Ability to identify, size, and troubleshoot all traditional refrigeration components.
• Ability to analyze pressure and temperature data of a refrigeration system for troubleshooting and system analysis.
• Experience designing medium & low temp range systems (R410, R404, R449), preferred.
• Knowledge of 2D CAD software is required, SolidWorks Electrical software is preferred.
• Knowledge of ultra-low temperature cascade systems (R508), is preferred.
• Knowledge of electrical wiring, and an understanding of controls circuits & PLC’s, are preferred
• Ability to troubleshoot and mechanical aptitude, required.
• Familiarity with current refrigeration engineering trends.
• An innovative mindset and positive attitude with great communication skills and attention to detail is required.
