Job Description

We’re seeking experienced Guardians ad Litem to support a key government agency within the New Hampshire Judiciary. In this vital role, you will serve as an officer of the court, advocating for the best interests of children and other vulnerable individuals in guardianship and family law proceedings. You'll conduct independent investigations, engage with stakeholders, and provide clear, evidence-based recommendations to the court. Your work ensures guardianships are managed with integrity, compassion, and full compliance with New Hampshire law.

  • Guardian ad Litem (GAL)
  • Location- State of New Hampshire
  • Schedule : Full-Time | Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM

  • Key Responsibilities Best Interest Advocacy
  • Advocate solely for the child’s best interest, regardless of the desires of any party, including the child or the parent.
  • Investigation & Fact-Finding
  • Conduct in-depth and impartial investigations by interviewing the child, parents, educators, healthcare providers, and other relevant parties. Review legal, medical, and academic records as appropriate.
  • Court Reporting
  • Prepare and submit written reports, that clearly outline findings and provide well-supported recommendations. Ensure all reporting follows the confidentiality standards
  • Court Attendance
  • Attend all hearings, case conferences, and meetings as required by the court, and provide oral testimony when needed to support written recommendations.
  • Child Interaction
  • Meet with the child in a developmentally appropriate setting to build rapport, assess needs, and gain direct input.
  • Collaboration & Communication
  • Maintain professional communication with the court, legal counsel, and involved agencies. Provide updates and respond promptly to reasonable requests for information.
  • Confidentiality Compliance
  • Protect confidential information and comply with ethical and statutory obligations.
  • QualificationsState Certification - Must be currently certified by the New Hampshire Guardian ad Litem Board .
  • Education Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in law, social work, psychology, education, or a related human services field preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children and families in a legal, mental health, education, or social services setting preferred.

  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Objective and unbiased decision-making
  • Strong investigative, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with NH family law and child protection statutes
  • Additional Requirements Must pass a criminal background and DCYF Central Registry check as required.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for home visits and court appearances.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously and meet court-mandated deadlines.
  • Must follow the New Hampshire Guardian ad Litem Board Code of Conduct and all court directives.
  • Must participate in ongoing professional development and maintain certification through required training hours.
